Instagram Tips and Tricks

Instagram can be a goldmine for small businesses, but only if we’re using it well. The algorithm changes constantly and there's always a new trend, but the basics still matter more than anything else.

If you're overwhelmed by Reels, hashtags, or how often to post, you're not alone. These tips are here to help you cut through the noise and make Instagram work for your business, not the other way around.

1. Consistency beats perfection

You don’t have to post every day, but showing up regularly matters. People buy from brands they recognise and trust. If you’re only popping up once a month, it’s easy to be forgotten.

Start with a goal of two or three posts a week and a few stories. More is great, but don’t burn out trying to keep up.

2. Use your face

You don’t have to be an influencer, but people like seeing the face behind the brand. Whether it’s a selfie, a behind-the-scenes moment, or a voiceover on a Reel, a little personal content goes a long way in building connection.

3. Make your bio work for you

Your bio should explain what you do, who it's for, and include a call to action. Think of it like a mini elevator pitch. Add a location if you’re a local business and use a link tool if you have multiple places you want people to visit.

4. Don’t overthink Reels

Yes, Instagram wants you to use Reels, but that doesn’t mean you need to dance or lip-sync if that’s not your vibe. Start simple. Use a trending sound, show your product, add a caption people will relate to.

Your first few might be awkward. That’s fine. Post them anyway.

5. Use stories to build loyalty

Stories are where your audience really gets to know you. Share the behind-the-scenes, the messy middle, the new idea you’re testing. Use polls, questions, and countdowns to get people involved.

You don’t need to have a perfect plan. Just show up like a human.

6. Focus on connection, not just conversion

Yes, you’re here to sell. But people don’t want to be sold to all the time. Mix in helpful, inspiring, or entertaining content alongside your products. The more value you provide, the more likely people are to stick around.
